The discovery of India was written by India's first prime minister at Ahmdnagar fort in present day Indian state of Maharashtra by British colonial authorities before the independence of India. This book was written in 1944 but published in 1946.

He remained in India for 13 years, studying and exploring. Alberuni's scholarly work has not been given the due recognition it deserves. Not for nearly 800 years would any other writer match Alberuni's profound understanding of almost all aspects of Indian life.
